Dwyane Wade Says His Own Dad Taught Him How to Support Zaya When She Came Out

Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union have long been supporters of LGBTQ+ rights in general, and of their 15-year-old daughter Zaya Wade, who is trans, in particular. In a new interview, Dwyane opened up about how his own dad, Dwyane Wade Sr., taught him to support Zaya, and why he and Union ultimately decided to move their family out of Florida in the wake of new anti-LGBTQ+ laws.

Wade opened up about being a dad and supporting Zaya during an interview that aired on the Thursday, April 26, episode of Showtime’s “Headliners with Rachel Nichols.” Nichols asked Wade what it was like navigating Zaya’s transition, and Wade teared up as he spoke about the example set by his own dad.

When Zaya first came out, he explained, “I didn’t have a lot of exposure to the conversations of being anything but a cis man, right?” But he said that didn’t mean he knew nothing, because he had an example of what it meant to be an amazing dad.

“I had a great father, and along the way you start to look back and you start to see the things that were built in you that you didn’t even know was built in you,” Dwyane explained. “I tell my dad all the time, I’m just a mirror image of the way he loved us, and the way he not only accepted myself and my brothers, but the other kids in the community that didn’t have father figures.”

Dwyane said he had to “educate himself” and “get a better understanding” of the LGBTQ+ community to support Zaya and that he did “lose some friends” in the process, “But I never wavered on loving my kids, and trying to find space to get the chance to understand them.”

Nichols asked Dwyane later in the interview how he would respond to Florida lawmakers trying to pass anti-trans laws. “That’s another reason why I don’t live in that state. A lot of people don’t know that,” Dwyane explained. “I have to make decisions for my family. Not just personal, individual decisions.” He said there are lots of good things Florida offers, “But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. So that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there.”

Wade’s connection to the state runs deep. He made his NBA debut with the Miami Heart in 2003, and he stayed with the team until 2016; he returned for a final season in 2018. The soon-to-be Hall-of-Famer won three championships as a member of the Heat and was named Finals MVP in 2006. He and Union sold their Miami Beach home in 2021, according to The Real Deal.

As for what Dwyane would tell Florida lawmakers, he said, “I would love to have a conversation with them.” He added that he “hates” the new laws, explaining that it felt like we were making so many “strides” from when he was a kid, but now society is “taking so many steps backward.”

At the end of the day, his focus is on people who do want to support LGBTQ+ people and want to progress forward. He said, “My family and I will continue to . . . lead with our voice, to lead with our efforts.”

In March, Zaya herself opened up about her platform and the “positives” that come with it. “There are some highs and some lows,” she told Dazed of her journey since coming out publicly. “I mean, a lot of attention equals a lot more hate, a lot of transphobia, and [there is] a lot of pressure on me, but I’m also able to reach more people. The positives of having such an inclusive platform completely outweigh all of the negativity online, which my support system has enabled me to filter out. It has allowed me to let in the positivity and distribute it to all of the trans people in the world who need a voice and give them a platform to get inspired to live with themselves without being afraid.”

Dwyane and Union’s blended family also includes Dwyane’s nephew Dahveon, 21; son Zaire, 21; son Xavier, 9; and daughter Kaavia, 4.

The Amy Winehouse Biopic, “Back to Black,” Has Officially Wrapped Filming

The highly-anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic has officially wrapped filming. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson posted a heartfelt message on Instagram on April 16 thanking the cast and crew for their support, as well as a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos. “It’s taken me a while to land back into life and realize what we collectively went through making our movie Back to Black. It’s a collaborative experience and I’m grateful to all and everyone one of you who came on board. I’m off into the quiet darkness of the edit room for the months to come,” she wrote.

Focus Features and Monumental first announced on Jan. 13 that “Back to Black” was to begin filming in London, and photos from the first day on set did not take long to circulate. British actress Marisa Abela, who has been cast in the titular role, was spotted walking outside iconic jazz club Ronnie Scott’s alongside Eddie Marsan, the actor who will be playing Winehouse’s dad, Mitch. Abela was spotted wearing the iconic beehive hair and ballet pumps that became synonymous with the singer’s look.

A biopic has been on the cards for years with multiple projects failing to take off, but now the film about the music star’s life, titled after the late star’s hit 2006 album of the same name, is finished, with a release date expected imminently. It will follow Winehouse’s rise to fame, from being the poster girl for London’s Camden to global stardom, and will “focus on Amy’s extraordinary genius, creativity, and honesty that infused everything she did.”

Throughout Winehouse’s career, she sold more than 30 million records worldwide, and her iconic music still generates over 80 million streams a month, but her success ended in tragedy all too soon. She struggled with drug addiction and died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011 at just 27 years old. The film depicting her life has been directed by her friend, Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”), and written by Matt Greenhalgh, who previously worked with Taylor-Johnson on the 2009 film, “Nowhere Boy”.

While the movie will include many of Winehouse’s songs, it is unclear whether Abela will be singing them herself or lip syncing. StudioCanal released a first-look photo of the star dressed the part on Jan. 13. Abela, who starred in BBC Two’s “Industry,” is a name soon to be on everyone’s lips as she also has a role in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie, opposite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, which is due to be released in July.

Taylor-Johnson, who is married to “Bullet Train”‘s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, said in the press release, “My connection to Amy began when I left college and was hanging out in the creatively diverse London borough of Camden. I got a job at the legendary KOKO CLUB, and I can still breathe every market stall, vintage shop and street… A few years later Amy wrote her searingly honest songs whilst living in Camden. Like with me, it became part of her DNA. I first saw her perform at a talent show at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho and it was immediately obvious she wasn’t just ‘talent’… she was genius. As a filmmaker you can’t really ask for more.”

Although many studios have tried to shed light on Winehouse’s life after her death, the only film that ever gained any real traction was “Amy,” which won an Oscar for best documentary. Taylor-Johnson’s biopic will be the first feature film to tackle the singer-songwriter’s journey, tactfully depict her struggles, and show the spirit that made the world fall in love with her in the first place. There’s been an influx of successful biopics of late, most recently the Whitney Houston film, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” so here’s hoping “Back to Black” will follow its sensitive portrayal of a global icon. The Amy Winehouse Estate added, “We are thrilled that STUDIOCANAL, Focus Features, and Monumental are making this movie celebrating our daughter Amy’s extraordinary music legacy and showcasing her talent in the way that it deserves.”

32 Sexy Films That Every “Fifty Shades of Grey”-Lover Should Watch

“Fifty Shades of Grey” and its sequels (“Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed”) are undeniably sexy films, but they are certainly not the only erotic movies out there that explore more singular sexual tastes. What so many people connect with in the relationship between Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) is the intensity they share in their romance and the dominant and submissive nature between the two. And yes, we can’t say we hate that Christian gets ever so slightly rough with Ana sometimes.

But sexiness isn’t just pure sex. The deep intimacy between sexual partners is also what we love about “Fifty Shades of Grey” and similar movies that explore pure intimacy. Sometimes that comes down to dialogue or emotion more so than actual sex. We love a partner who listens to what we want and actively sets out to give it to us, and that comes down to intimacy in a partnership.

For something that’s a little more than just your average romance, we have a selection of movies in the vein of “Fifty Shades of Grey” that are sexy, steamy, and perhaps even a little kinky. From bondage and BDSM to pure, passionate sex, we’ve rounded up movies similar to “Fifty Shades of Grey” that give it a run for its money when it comes to sex-filled scenes and interesting additions in the bedroom (or the car, or the bathroom floor, or the middle of a room filled with masked members of a secret society).

If you’re up for something a little different than your average romance, then these movies are sure to satisfy. It goes without saying, but these movies are most definitely NSFW but are highly recommended to be enjoyed with a partner (or partners).

Abby Ryder Fortson Comes From an Acting Family – Get to Know the 15-Year-Old Star

Abby Ryder Fortson may be leading a big blockbuster movie with vets like Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates, but she’s no acting newbie. The 15-year-old stars as the titular lead of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” (out on April 28), the long-awaited movie adaptation of Judy Blume’s beloved 1970 book, but she’s been featured in plenty of other onscreen projects – most notably, in the Ant-Man movies as Cassie Lang.

Ryder Fortson, who started acting when she was four years old, apparently caught the acting bug from her thespian parents, John Fortson and Christie Lynn Smith. During an April 26 interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the young star recalled when her parents would take her to their auditions when she was a kid. “I would sit on the producer’s couch and I’d just watch them,” she shared. “And one day, when I was about three-and-a-half or something, I just turned to them and was like, ‘I want to do this now. Please get me an audition, I want to be an actor.'”

The romantic date night marked the couple’s first red carpet appearance since the birth of their daughter, Matilda, in March. On Instagram, Cuoco shouted out her “hot date” and congratulated her husband on his performance in the upcoming film.

“It’s amazing. I mean, Kaley looks so beautiful. It’s a lot of fun.”

As they made their way down the red carpet, the couple held hands, exchanged smiles, and even broke out into laughter as they posed for the cameras. Between their playful jokes and loving embraces, it was clear that the pair were happy to have an evening to enjoy one another’s company.

“Yes, this is our first date night since Matilda was born,” Pelphrey told Entertainment Tonight during the event. “It’s amazing. I mean, Kaley looks so beautiful. It’s a lot of fun. Took some pictures with Matilda before we left home.”

As a nod to their daughter, Cuoco also wore a personalized silver necklace featuring Matilda’s name.

Pelphrey and Cuoco’s evening out comes less than a week after the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary. “Cheers to a year with you @tommypelphrey,” Cuoco captioned sweet throwback photos on Instagram. “eternally grateful for you and what we have I love you, bub!”

Prepare For “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” by Watching the Whole Franchise in Order

After five long years, the Transformers franchise is finally heading back to theaters with the release of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” this summer. The new movie, which will mark the seventh film in the franchise, is set to star Anthony Ramos (“In the Heights“) as an electronics expert and Dominique Fishback (“Swarm“) as an artifact researcher who both get unexpectedly thrust into “a ’90s globetrotting adventure” with the Autobots and Decepticons.

“Rise of the Beasts” will introduce not only a new set of human characters but new Transformers factions as well, known as the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons. These aliens can turn into robotic animals, and while we’ve seen these types of Transformers in the ’90s “Beast Wars” cartoon, we’re just now getting to witness them in live-action form. “There are different breeds of Transformers,” director Steven Caple Jr. told The Hollywood Reporter. “In our particular film, they are prehistoric animals who travel through time and space, and we find them here on Earth.”

According to People, these new Transformers will be voiced by major stars like Ron Perlman, Pete Davidson, and Michelle Yeoh.

Since it’s been 15 years since the first Transformers movie premiered in 2007, here’s a recap of the other films to help you prepare for “Rise of the Beasts,” which will hit theaters on June 9.

How Many Transformers Movies Are There?

  1. “Transformers” (2007)
  2. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009)
  3. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” (2011)
  4. “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014)
  5. “Transformers: The Last Knight” (2017)
  6. “Bumblebee” (2018)
  7. “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” (2023)

Transformers Movies in Order

1. “Transformers”

When their homeworld, Cybertron, is destroyed due to a civil war with the Decepticons, the Autobots head to Earth in search of the AllSpark, which is the source of all Cybertronian life, in hopes of using it to restore their planet before the Decepticons can use it for evil. They find out the coordinates of the AllSpark’s location were imprinted on Archibald Witwicky’s glasses, which are now in the hands of his great-great-grandson Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). He’s an average high-school student who gets wrapped up in the Transformers’ civil war when he purchases his first car – a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro – that is secretly the Autobot Bumblee in disguise.

2. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”

Sam is now a college student who’s trying to live a normal life. However, when he begins to see Cybertronian symbols everywhere he goes, he’s thrown into action once again when he becomes targeted by the Decepticons, who think the symbols in Sam’s mind will lead them to an Energon-producing Star Harvester that will help them raise an army.

3. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”

After graduating college and moving in with his new girlfriend, Carly Spencer (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), Sam gets caught up in another battle between the Transformers when the Decepticons rage war against the Autobots once again. This time, Optimus Prime plans to revive the Autobots’ old leader, Sentinel Prime, to help them win. However, chaos ensues when he betrays the Autobots.

4. “Transformers: Age of Extinction”

The events of “Dark of the Moon” have led humanity to believe that all Transformers are a threat, so they create a task force to hunt them all down. They partner up with a Cybertronian bounty hunter named Lockdown (who’s working for an alien race known as the Creators) in order to take down Optimus Prime, who goes into hiding with the rest of his team as a result. He’s later discovered by an inventor named Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz Beckham), who help the Autobots in their fight against Lockdown.

5. “Transformers: The Last Knight”

Since humans continue to hunt down Transformers, Cade goes into hiding after taking in several Transformer refugees. However, when he meets a dying Transformer who gives him a mysterious Talisman, he becomes targeted by Decepticons and the US government, who plan on using the Talisman to locate Merlin’s staff, which is an ancient Transformer weapon.

6. “Bumblebee”

“Bumblebee,” which acts as a prequel to the Transformers films, begins with the Autobots trying to evacuate Cybertron. However, when they’re stopped by the Decepticons, Optimus Prime sends Bumblebee to Earth to scout the planet in hopes of making it their new base of operations. Things go wrong when Bumblebee is attacked by the Decepticon Blitzwig, who breaks his voice box and erases his memories. After defeating Blitzwig, Bumblebee meets a teenage girl named Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), who helps him regain his memories and defend Earth from the Decepticons.

7. “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” will introduce three new groups of Transformers called the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons, who join the war between the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was inspired by “Beast Wars,” which was a Transformers cartoon during the ’90s.

Joshua Jackson Says Wife Jodie Turner-Smith “Kind of Enjoys” His Sex Scenes

Joshua Jackson has starred in several TV shows that have involved him doing sex scenes, including his hit drama “The Affair,” which aired from 2014 to 2019. He’s stripping down again for his Paramount+ streaming series, a reworked “Fatal Attraction,” out on April 30. And though he’s settled down with wife Jodie Turner-Smith, she doesn’t mind when he has steamier moments on screen. In fact, Jackson says she often tunes in.

In an interview with Variety, published on April 27, Jackson said that “Jodie is not fussed about my sex scenes.” He explained, laughing, “The sex scenes themselves, Jodie kind of enjoys them, actually. It’s a weird thing where she’s like a voyeur. So that works! If that’s your thing – excellent.”

Jackson noted that sex scenes are, in general, technical, and he personally prefers scenes of characters falling in love. Speaking of love, the “Dawson’s Creek” alum said he’d be thrilled to share the screen with his real-life partner. He noted specifically that the pair have dreamed of doing a “Romancing the Stone” remake but that “someone else” is already filming a re-envisioned version of the 1984 adventure-romance.

The couple and parents of one, in general, seem to always stand by each other in life and work. “I think it’s really beautiful to be with someone who is so supportive and so loving,” Turner-Smith told People in 2021. “We’re so similar in so many ways. We’re like mirrors for each other. And I just really love that human being.”

See Batman’s Leading Feline Ladies Throughout the Decades

The Batman,” released in 2022, marked Zoë Kravitz as the latest star to slink into the Catwoman suit and kick major butt on screen. However, the 34-year-old certainly isn’t the first actor to wear that iconic leather jumpsuit. Women have been portraying Catwoman since the 1960s, and while Kravitz is great in the role – which earned her a nomination at the Critics Choice Super Awards – she was tasked with filling some pretty big cat ears.

In a January interview with W magazine, Kravitz revealed that she did her own research for her Catwoman role, saying, “I did watch a lot of videos of large cats and thought it was really interesting that they move their hips but not their face or their eyes.”

Kravitz isn’t the only star to bring her own flair to the role of Catwoman. Halle Berry‘s 2004 portrayal, though poorly received, still gets brought up to this day. Back in 2018, Berry acknowledged her movie’s failure while accepting an award from New York Women in Communication, per Glamour, and said, “Everybody around me said, ‘Girl, don’t do it. It’s going to be the death of you. It’s going to end your career.’ But guess what I did? I followed my intuition and I did a movie called ‘Catwoman’ and it bombed miserably.”

Berry’s Catwoman wasn’t a total loss, though. The actor noted that “while it failed to most people, it wasn’t a failure for me because I met so many interesting people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.” She also said she learned “two forms of martial arts” and, most of all, made “a sh*t-load of money that changed my life.”

From Kravitz and Berry to Eartha Kitt and Michelle Pfeiffer, scroll ahead to see which other actors have played Batman’s sexy sidekick.
