Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are basically Met Gala royalty, but Lively will not be in attendance at the 2023 Met Gala on May 1. At the reopening of the Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue in New York City on April 28, Lively was asked by reporters if they'll see her at this year's gala. She answered, "You will not," per People. "But I will be watching," she added.
When a reporter complimented her 2022 look, she replied, "Thank you, that's very sweet. I'll be wearing that on my couch on Monday." Though Lively didn't directly comment on her husband's attendance, Reynolds presumably won't be attending without her.
Lively and Reynolds co-chaired the 2022 Met Gala, and they previously attended the event together in 2014, 2017, and 2018 as well. Lively's looks at the event has made her a yearly Met Gala favorite.
Though Lively didn't reveal the reason why she's skipping the Met Gala this year, she is very busy right now. She and Reynolds, who've been married since 2012, share four children: daughters James, 8, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3, and a newborn, whom they welcomed sometime this winter. In March, the whole family was spotted at a soccer game in Wales to support Reynolds's team Wrexham FC, who Reynolds co-owns with actor Rob McElhenney. Lively's April 28 appearance was her first red carpet since giving birth.
On top of their parenting and soccer-related commitments, Lively and Reynolds have both kept their acting plates full. Lively is set to appear in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's "It Ends With Us", while Reynolds will star in "Deadpool 3" in 2024. On top of Lively's appearance at the Tiffany's event, the parents were also spotted hand-in-hand on the street in New York earlier in April, and were also photographed getting dinner with their good friend Taylor Swift.
